About us
The Concord Lodge Association of Ottawa has been providing a Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service since 1967. We ensure that a Christian Science nurse is available around the clock for Christian Scientists in the eastern Ontario region. We also provide Financial Assistance for Christian Science nursing and practitioner fees, as well as for housing and other needs. The Association has a Board of Directors elected from its membership that meets regularly to manage day-to-day affairs, and handle requests for financial assistance in confidence.
Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service
While relying on prayer for healing, sometimes there is a practical need. A Christian Science nurse can assist with such practical needs while supporting the healing environment with clarity of thought and encouragement. The Christian Science nurse is available seven days a week and can skillfully assist with tasks such as:
- Bandaging, wound and injury care
- Regular bathing
- Preparing meals and feeding
- Providing advice on mobility aids.
The Christian Science nurse is able to advise on all aspects of care for those relying on Christian Science for healing. She can also provide information on community services available in the Ottawa area to assist with household tasks such as meal preparation and cleaning. The Christian Science nurse works independently and patients are invoiced directly for her services. All contact with the Christian Science nurse is completely confidential. Housing and Other Assistance
The Association can provide financial assistance for:
- Christian Science nursing and practitioner fees
- A short-term stay at a Christian Science nursing facility
- Appropriate solutions for individual needs in regard to housing – for example, contacts for professional, financial and real estate services and a volunteer to help individuals investigate accommodation options.
- Transportation to and from church and church activities
- Other needs that may arise.
Requests for financial assistance can be made directly to the Board, or via the Christian Science nurse or practitioner, as appropriate. The Board generally provides one-time payments for specific items rather than ongoing subsidies. Verification of financial need may be requested for extended assistance. The Board is open to creative solutions for your needs!
